Small watercolour with cut out stamps in the style of a Tang dynasty scholar or a Daoist priest, holding a magical straight sword intended to vanquish demons, cure diseases, and cut away the earthly temptations that keep humans from achieving enlightenment.  Displaying this immortal known as Lu Dongbin in a prominent space is traditionally believed in Feng Shui to invite longevity, good fortune, and absolute protection against negative energy or bad luck.  In period lime-washed frame, Chinese, circa 1920
