Antique Needlework Icon Depicting the Crowning of the Virgin Mary

Painted icon on wood panel depicting the crowning of Mary, highly unusual because the oklad (cover) of the painted panel is made of fine silver needlework embroidered on linen cloth. An extensive embroidered altar cover very similar to this embroidery can be seen in St Mary's Basilica  (built in the 14th century) in the old historic centre of Krakow Poland.  Eastern Europe, 18th century
