Large Mid-Century Swedish Landscape by Carl Berndtsson, Circa 1940-1950s

Thick impasto oil on canvas using a cool, muted colour palette dominated by blues, greens and greys. Carl Berndtsson  (1902-1983) is best known as a post-impressionist and modernist landscape painter. Inscription on the back indicates that the painting is a view of the geographic region of the Stjarnorp estate in Ostergotland, Sweden.   His artwork is represented in several prominent regional Swedish institutions, including museums in Helsingborg, Landskrona, Hoganas, and Kristianstad.
