Mid Century Swedish Snow Scene Signed Meyer and Dated ‘59

The artist loaded a stiff brush or palette knife with heavy, thick paint (impasto) and scraped it across the hardboard to carve out block-like architectural shapes and textured fields of snow.   The colour choice relies heavily on Tonalism using a highly restricted, moody palette to emphasize the cold and atmospheric light of a Scandinavian winter.  Signed and dated Meyer (19)59 in lower right corner
